Student Women’s Choir Medusa is an enthusiastic and diverse group of 25 students who share a love for music. The choir was founded in 1984 and has been led by conductor Iris van ’t Veer, who is also alumna of Medusa.

Medusa is characterized by a varying repertoire, consisting of light classical-, modern classical-, film-, musical- and folk music. In short, music for every taste! At the moment, we are (digitally) rehearsing Faure’s requiem, including some arrangements by our very own members.

Each year, Medusa organises a winter- and summer concert, with different smaller projects in between. During these half-yearly concerts, pieces are performed a capella, but also together with professional musicians, varying from a single pianist to a complete string ensemble with singing soloists. Sadly, we had to cancel our winterconcert of 2020 due to restrictions for singers, though we are currently working on a digital recording of a fun Christmas song 🙂 Even during these unpredictable and challenging times, our board and members come up with fun activities to stay connected to each other and to music. Examples are online quizzes and games, digital get-togethers and recording projects. Make sure to check out our YouTube channel for the latter and more recordings of previous concerts!

We welcome new members to the choir every year in either September or January. If you’d like to have a taste of what it’s like to sing in Medusa, make sure to visit our open rehearsals in early 2021! As mentioned before, we are currently rehearsing digitally via Discord, because of the new corona-restrictions for singers. Though, we have been rehearsing in a safe and coronaproof way in person last September and October, in the Utrechtse Muziekschool, close to the Dom Square (city centre).   At the moment, we are not sure yet what our open rehearsals of 2021 will look like, but we are gladly welcoming any interested singers!  Feel free to send us an email if you have any questions or if you’d like to attend one of our open rehearsals:
