The association was founded in 1981 and has about 250 members, both Utrecht and exchange students. Due to the broad nature of international and European law, we welcome both bachelor- and master students from all faculties! Urios is affiliated with the Utrecht Journal of International and European Law, an Open Access, peer-reviewed, student-led journal.
Our main goal is to introduce students to international and European law on a more practical level. We do this by organizing all kinds of activities, such as lectures, law firm visits and our own Career Event. This event offers bachelor- and master students alike the perfect opportunity to look into the possibilities politics, European- and international law have to offer. Some of the law firms, institutions and organizations we’ve had until now include the Representation of the European Commission, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the US Embassy, The Human Rights Watch, Van Hasselt Law and other lobby firms. Our 2021 Career Event will take place on the 18th of March!

In addition to this, we organize activities where you can improve your practical skills, such as our Debate Nights. During these Debate Nights, an external speaker will introduce a topical issue. Issues we have debated, for instance, are the power of Big Tech platforms and the possibility to mandate the COVID-19 vaccine. These Debate Nights also offer a great opportunity to practice for our own Model United Nations: URUMUN. This MUN conference is perfect for students who would like to get a taste of diplomacy!
