History of the stadium
Stadium Galgenwaard is the home of FC Utrecht, which is the largest football club of Utrecht ever since its foundation in 1970. The club was founded as a merger of three clubs from Utrecht and has never relegated from the Eredivisie, which is the highest level of professional football in the Netherlands. After being renovated at the beginning of the 21st century, the stadium now has a capacity of 23,750 spectators and it also accommodates some shops, offices and the supporters home of the FC Utrecht fanclub. The Dutch national football team has played 7 matches in the Galgenwaard.
